"A
SHOW OF HANDS,"
Stux,529 West 20th Street, (212) 352-1600 (through May 29). The most impressive
works in this exhibition of three artists dealing with hand images are the
powerfully expressionistic, bigger-than-life arms and hands made of cast
dirt by the contemporary American Surrealist James Croak. Andrea Frank’s
altered photographs meditate on the Nazi salute. In Renee Cox’s black-and
–white photographic portraits, hands compound sexual and interracial
overtones (Johnson). |
